A few years back I was the guest speaker to a psychology class at Cape Cod Community College. My sister-in-law, Nancy Curci, MS, OT/L, was the college professor who invited me. She is also a licensed certified social worker, member Board of Bar Overseers of Boston Massachusetts (again this coming September), and is a certified Court Mediator. She is also the author of the book, Know Me, a compilation of interviews with combat veterans spanning the time from WWI through Vietnam; and one of the contributing authors of the book, Mental Health Care of Deaf People. Curci also worked as a consultant for the homeless in Hyannis. “That was one of the best jobs I ever had,” she said.
I am used to teaching energy work classes, formerly as a Reiki Master Teacher and now as A New Paradigm Multidimensional Transformation (NPMDT) Teacher, however, I had never taught in a college setting before.
Driving by this college, which is nestled close to the shores of Cape Cod with its pristine beaches laden with seashells and stones, whale watching excursions, and numerous shark sightings, reminded me of the talk I gave to her class. The room was full of students. She introduced me and invited me to the front of the room for my presentation.
Usually I teach weekend classes over two to four, six-hour days, lasting for a total of 12 to 24 hours of teaching, depending on the class subject. In this case, I was to teach the first half of the class, and my husband, John Hourihan, an award-winning newspaper columnist, and author of seven books, was to teach the second half of the class. How could I ever do justice to both the subject material and a room full of students in such a short time?
As I started to speak, it was obvious that my audience was different from those who came to my classes over the past 20 years. Usually there is a thirst for the metaphysical knowledge I have acquired. But this time, the college students initially seemed a bit disinterested, until I caught them with a simple statement that made them chuckle. I was starting to tell them about their personal energy systems, and how to tap into their energy systems to direct it so they could better be the masters of their own mental, physical, and spiritual ships.
I said, “One time I woke up, well, I mean, I always wake up, but on this day …”
For some reason it just came out funny, making them chuckle, and catching their attention. From then on, they were interested in waking up their energy systems, or better yet, focusing their mind on the realization that they could control it for better use for their futures.
People young and old like to control so many things these days when so many things seem to control us, like the time we spend at work and school. It used to be people went to school or work for a certain amount of hours, then they were done. But in today’s world of technological advancements, people do not seem to be off the clock anymore, and may not even know what that term means. Now everyone must answer their phones immediately or return calls promptly twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, or someone else can be found who will.
The demand on people’s time and focus in today’s world seems to insidiously usurp all personal energy until nothing is left for the rest of the family or themselves except to mentally crash before the television or go straight to bed. This is not a life well-lived. There is so much more.
The year long struggle with the COVID-19, SARS-Co2 virus, for those who were able to live through it, compressed and encapsulated homes into work, school, church, and various activity stations simultaneously. The energy required to keep up this fiasco of life was monumentally draining, as most people in this situation can agree.
How can we get back to our lives, or even, come out better, more conscious, more aware people than we were before?
There is the “I AM Presence,” the fingerprint of God in your personal life. We are not victims of our lives. We are the masters of our ships, by the decisions and moods we choose to have. Before throwing rotten tomatoes at me, please realize that yes, you do in fact, have a choice in your moods, what you think about. You can change your moods and your thoughts at any moment you want to. It is all to what you give your focus and your power.
It is no accident you are here on the planet at this time, in this moment of history. This school of life is not finished for you if you are here. We make mistakes. That is what learning is all about. It is how we empower our thoughts, words and actions to more awareness with our futures that manifests our realities.
Nancy Curci has also taken my energy class, and obviously knows how to manifest beautiful tapestries in her life through her life’s work. The link to her latest book can be found at:

This is what I shared with the college students, and now share with you.
Have a beautiful day!
