My family and Massachusetts friends might remember me as the young girl teaching CCD classes to first, second, and third grade students, leading town parades as a head majorette, and later writing for my beloved town of Mendon as the local reporter for the Milford Daily News for 20 years, even after I moved to neighboring Hopedale, where I also taught religious education for an additional 10 years. I held Bible studies in my home there and began researching all religions as I had been taught to do prior to in my Confirmation class in the Noonan’s home in Mendon as a teenager.
My Red Bag of Courage is a book of integrity, tenacity for truth, and honesty in wisdom. Like the rest of you, I had a human life full of pitfalls and twists and turns of life. This book is my journey through a sometimes-perilous life which few other people knew about. It is not their fault that they did not know because I never shared my private life with anyone.
I thank all the people who have been part of my life and for the life lessons we all learned in the process. This has been an incredible and unexpected faith journey. Many of you will remember our beloved Father George Rueger who later became a bishop and resided at Saint Peter’s Church in Worcester before he died. He is in this book. I could not eliminate his counsel and wisdom.
I share from the bottom of my full heart the Love and the Light of spiritual direction which I also received from the late Fr. Bernard R. Reilley at one of the most critical moments of my life, the death of a very dear friend and her son which I share in this book.
