Migraine headaches, depression, stress, anxiety, and panic attacks are side-effects, not the problem you may think you have. When you go to the doctor or mental health provider to prescribe medications for migraine headaches, depression, stress, anxiety, and panic attacks, you are only dealing with the secondary cause your malaise. Why not eradicate the primary cause of your issue?

While reading this meme you might ridicule the solutions suggested, while simultaneously thinking that your problem is far worse, or that you are not understood by the people in whom you confide.

Think of a lawn filled with dandelion weeds as the pain and anguish you are feeling. Simply mowing the lawn and cutting off the heads of the flowering weeds does not eradicate them. The roots are still present, growing deeper and resistant to the mower, which is actually spreading them. This is the exact opposite of the relief you are seeking.

Facing the actual problem in your life that is leading to recurrent migraine headaches, depression, stress, anxiety, and panic attacks takes courage. Just because something seems insurmountable does not mean that it is. It takes a concerted effort to rid the lawn of weeds, just as it does to annihilate the root causes of mental and physical malady.

SOLUTIONS:

  1. Honor yourself by taking time out, at least 15 minutes, out of your day, not doing anything else, nor doing two things at once, like driving AND counting that as your 15-minute recouperation.
  2. Consciously do slow rhythmic breathing. Inhale for the same count as you exhale, focusing on each breath. Do this for about 2 minutes.
  3. As you take in your next breath, tense the area around your eyes, hold tightly, and relax your eyes as you exhale.
  4. Breathe in and clench your teeth and jaw, hold, then relax your teeth and jaw on the exhale.
  5. Raise your shoulders as you breathe in, hold and imagine your shoulders connected to your ears, then relax your shoulders as you exhale.
  6. Tense in your upper and lower arms as you inhale, hold arm tension as if you are back in school holding heavy books, then relax your arms as you exhale.
  7. Make a hard fist in each hand on your inhale, hold tightly, then relax your hands and fingers as you exhale.
  8. Tense your abdomen as you breathe in, hold for a moment, then relax on your next outbreath.
  9. Tense your buttocks, hips, and legs as you breathe in, hold tightly, then relax those muscles as you exhale.
  10. Curl your toes tightly as you inhale, hold tightly, then relax them on the exhale.
  11. Take relaxing breaths with each inhale and exhale for 3 minutes.
  12. Simply relaxing your breath for 15 minutes lowers blood pressure.

The above is an excellent self-help tool to relax, reduce stress, tension, anxiety, and panic. But sometime life presents situations for us to deal with when we are not ready or willing to do so. We need to be fully conscious of the changes in our lives. We need to find the time to review our lives from time to time.

How much pain, loss of work, and lack of pleasure in life are you willing to put up with, rather than deal with the cause, not just the symptoms of your life?

Courage is not having no fear. Courage is facing your issues head on, as opposed to carrying the heavy mental and emotional burdens on your mind, shoulders, and stomach. Notice the parts of your body that try to capture your attention when you deny the reality of your life. Yes, even your stomach physically can get into the mental and emotional trash can of your life.

Notice also, that the body tells on itself. Your body manifests all function and dysfunction of your feelings, such as getting an upset stomach or an ulcer from being emotionally upset. The bigger the emotional upset, the bigger the physical manifestation is in your body. You may also notice heat radiating from certain areas of your body where the excess worry, stress, and/or pain reside, extending out from your body as tangible heat in your aura. This is also felt by the person standing next to you.

Weighing the benefits of over-committing yourself or excusing the real reason for the negative way you are feeling, only leads to fertilizing more of what you do not want to live with, such as a body constantly and repeatedly registering mental and emotional pain and anguish.

Think of the first time you got that migraine headache.

How old were you?

What was going on?

How often does this pattern repeat today?

Do migraine headaches still play a part in your life today?

Pay attention to the major events in your life. Were migraine headaches present at your wedding or other poignant moments?

Looking at your life as a whole, not just isolated events, can point to the solutions you know deep down inside yourself that you need to make, address, or readjust.

Putting up with recurring pain is not the solution. If the root cause of recurrent pain is physical, medical or chiropractic solutions can help. But if the root cause of the migraine headaches, depression, stress, anxiety, or panic attacks is mental or emotional, then dealing with the root cause of the issue, not the symptom is the solution.
